Coaches Discretion

Freestyle: 25m, ensuring correct breathing technique every three

Backstroke: 25m, straight arm recovery

Breaststroke: 25m, with a legal leg kick

Butterfly: 25m, a good attempt is acceptable

Forward roll: if achieved, they can be taught tumble-turns

Dive in: Must be able to dive in, allows teaching of racing dive.

  • Stroke technique on all four competitive strokes, using coach-controlled sets and single lap work
  • Stroke drill progressions for all four competitive strokes, initially suing fins to perform coach-controlled sets and single-lap work
  • Endurance and speed training to prepare swimmers for the next level.
  • Introduction to IM Competitive swimming
  • Turns for all four competitive strokes
  • Starts on all four competitive strokes
  • Relay takeovers
  • Correct finishes of the four competitive strokes
  • Sculling & Games
  • Using a pace clock
  • Training in a group environment and lane discipline
  • Club time trails on a variety of strokes and distance twice a year
  • Introduction to low-level competition – such as Tudor League, Club Championship and Club Short Course Gala
  • Punctual start times for all sessions
  • Introduction top basic stretching exercises
  • The training equipment that swimmers need in the squad includes: a kickboard, drink bottle and flippers
